Bangladesh: Violence Over The Crime Verdicts Increased To 84 Deaths

Fresh encounters continued in Bangladesh on Tuesday as the death numbers in the ongoing violence over the crime verdicts increased to 84. The encounters broke out after conviction of three top Islamist leaders for 1971 war crimes on Jan 21.

Supporters of the Jamaat-e-Islami encountered with the Bangladesh police on Monday after the huge strike was called to protest against the conviction of leaders.

School, businesses, buses and other markets   remained closed a midst reports that protesters attacking police and government offices and blocking rail and road traffic.

There are four persons, including a teenager boy, and 18 others injured when opened fire on unruly picketers in Satkhira and Sirajganj. Police said they fired in self-defense.



Three compartments of a train were burnt when Jamaat-Shibir men putted a explosive at the train but no one was hurt it the attack. A senior official of Bangladesh Railway said the reporters that a loud blast was heard and fire set in three compartments of train.

When Indian President Pranab Mukherjee’s maiden visited the country, the two-day strike called strike called by Jamaat coincided with this visit.

The main opposition party Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP has called  another shutdown. Because of these clashes Bangladesh is burning and it is very critical position for world.
